Prospective Students

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Anthropology Graduate Program at the University of Georgia. Below we highlight just a few reasons to consider joining us for your PhD.

  • Our program has a research focus and educates students in the design and implementation of novel research with foundations in contemporary and emerging theoretical perspectives.
  • Our PhD program is cohort-based and designed for students to finish in five years.
  • Professional development is built into all aspects of our curriculum and is designed for students considering academic and practice-oriented careers.
  • To ensure a successful graduate experience we emphasize student mentoring beginning with mentoring compacts and Individual Development Plans.
  • The department is home to a cohesive faculty and student community resting on our common interests in environment and ecology and working across the anthropology sub-fields of archaeology, biological, and cultural.
  • Our students have a high job placement rate in careers of their choice including teaching, research, and public and private sector jobs.
  • As directors, members, and collaborative partners, faculty and students are integrated into nationally recognized UGA-wide resources including the Center for Integrative Conservation Research, the Laboratory of Archaeology, the Georgia Museum of Natural History, and the Center for Applied Isotope Studies.

If you would like to see where our faculty and graduate students are currently working in the world, please use our interactive map. You are encouraged to read through our faculty personnel pages and current graduate student pages as well for bios, recent publications, and more.
