Dr. Suzanne Pilaar Birch and the interdisciplinary team behind, Ethical Open Science for Past Global Change Data, have published findings from a multiyear NSF project, supported by the Findable Accessible Interoperable Reusable Open Science (FAIROS) program.

The publication titled "Interweaving the CARE and FAIR Principles in Open Quaternary Data Resources: From reflection to initial action" explores the intersection of the frameworks, CARE and FAIR. The CARE (Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, and Ethics) principles pertain specifically to Indigenous Data Governance and were developed by the Global Indigenous Data Alliance. The FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) framework was developed for scientific data management. The project has focused on implementing both FAIR and CARE best practices in managing data resources relevant to understanding global change through time.
