With more than 9 years of work experience with World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan), I had a chance to develop my insight into environmental challenges and nature conservation in Pakistan. Working with the organization, I learnt about different environmental issues from climate change to watershed management and species conservation. Being Coordinator Communications at WWF-Pakistan, it required me to engage with various government and non-government organizations including media on the issues related to conservation. It was during that time that I could observe how the narrative of conservation organizations was inclined to be more political rather than environmental. This developed my interest in politics of conservation and I intended to explore how conservation and politics interplay and interact with each other at different scales; and politics within or between the conservation organizations and government institutes impacts the wildlife. I earned my Bachelors in Political Science from Shah Abdul Latif University in 2004 and did Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Anthropology from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad in 2007. For my M.Sc. I did extensive research work on role of indigenous knowledge in fish catching practices at coastal town in Karachi. Moreover, having MPhil in Sociology from University of Karachi, I did ethnographic fieldwork on climate change induced human migration in the Indus delta, Pakistan. With relevant work experience and educational background, I find the PhD Program at Department of Anthropology, UGA very exciting. I will be enjoying to learn more about environmental anthropology and integrated conservation, a joint initiative to refine my skills and bring new experience.
