Dr. Cydney Seigerman awarded S. Jack Hu Family Excellence in Social and Behavioral Sciences Doctoral Research Award

Seigerman

Cydney Seigerman graduated with a PhD in Integrative Conservation and Anthropology in 2024. Now, Seigerman is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the UGA Social Sustainability of Agriculture and Food Systems Lab, and has been honored with the S. Jack Hu Family Excellence in Social and Behavioral Sciences Doctoral Research Award. Established by the Graduate School in 1999, the Excellence in Research Award recognizes the quality and significance of graduate-student scholarship.

Seigerman's dissertation, Fluid Inequities: The Dynamics of Water Relations and Water Insecurities in Ceará, Northeast Brazil, explored the sociopolitical, technological, and environmental factors shaping water insecurity in Brazil’s semi-arid region. As a postdoctoral researcher, they now focus on sustainable food systems, studying on-farm research and challenges to adopting regenerative agriculture in the U.S. Their interdisciplinary approach integrates anthropology, hydrology, and the arts—rooted in their diverse background in chemistry, Spanish literature, and theatre. Seigerman's work continues to bridge the sciences and humanities, promoting equity and justice in sustainability research.
