Department Head and Professor, Dr. Ted Gragson, along with UGA Department of Geography's David Leigh, and University of Oregon's Michael Coughlan had a paper published in MDPI's Sustainability journal. The paper is titled, "Contingency and Agency in the Mountain Landscapes of the Western Pyrenees: A Place-Based Approach to the Long Anthropocene." 

The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board awarded PhD candidate, Anya Bonanno, a 2020-2021 Fulbright U.S. Student Award to Sierra Leone. During Anya's Fulbright Year, she will act as a cultural ambassador in order to enhance the mutual understanding between Americans and the people of Sierra Leone as well as conduct field research for her dissertation project entitled, "Re-examining Property through Women's Claims to Gardens in Sierra Leone." Learn more about the Fulbright U.S.

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS) awarded PhD candidate, Suneel Kumar, a 2020-2021 Junior Fellowship. The Dating Iroquoia project is co-directed by Dr. Jennifer Birch and is made up of researchers at Cornell University, New York State Museum, and the University of Georgia, including Research Assistant, Megan Conger. The McNeil Center for Early American Studies (MCEAS) at the University of Pennsylvania has awarded PhD candidate, Megan Conger, a 2020-2021 Friends of the MCEAS Dissertation Fellowship.

Professor Emerita, Dr. Elizabeth Reitz and alumni, Dr. Fred Andrus, along with Daniel Sandweiss, Alice Kelley, Kirk Maasch, and Paul Roscoe wrote an article that was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS). The article is titled, "Archaeological climate proxies and the complexities of reconstructing Holocene El Niño in coastal Peru."  

The Mellon International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) Program awarded PhD candidate, Katie Foster, a 2020 IDRF Fellowship, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The IDRF offers nine to twelve months of support to graduate students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who are enrolled in PhD programs in the United States and conducting dissertation research on non-US topics.
