"When disinformation makes sense: Contextualizing the war on coal in Appalachian Kentucky" by PhD candidate, Shelly Biesel, is now available for early view in Economic Anthropology. This manuscript utilizes "qualitative interviews, participant observation, and discourse analysis" in order to "explore how war‐on‐coal disinformation becomes a commonsense explanation for many dealing with coal industry recession."

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the University of Georgia (UGA) recently announced a partnership that connects the interdisciplinary expertise of UGA’s Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS), with the vast on-the-ground experience of USACE’s Engineering With Nature® (EWN®) Initiative to form the Network for Engineering With Nature (N-EWN).

This new program gives students the opportunity to earn both their Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Master of Historic Preservation in five years. Professor Emeritus, Dr. Stephen Kowalewski has a new book

The Department of Anthropology and the Laboratory of Archaeology's Dr. Stephen Kowalewski served as an editor on the newly published, The Evolution of Social Institutions-Interdisciplinary Perspectives. This book presents a novel and innovative approach to the study of social evolution through articles written by scholars from multiple disciplines including, Dr. Kowalewski and Dr. Jennifer Birch.

Dating Iroquoia Project featured in The SAA Archaeological Record

The SAA Archaeological Record featured the Dating Iroquoia project in their September issue. The issue features multiple articles by members of the Dating Iroquoia team, including Co-Principal Investigator, Dr. Jennifer Birch, and PhD candidates, Megan Conger and Jonathan Micon, who are both Research Assistants on the project. The SAA Archaeological Record is the magazine of the Society for American Archaeology.

Dr. Victor Thompson, Dr. Brandon Ritchison (PhD '19), and PhD candidate, Isabelle Holland Lulewicz, along with Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Bryan Tucker and US National Park Service's John A Turck recently had their article, "Climate change, resilience, and the Native American Fisher-hunter-gatherers of the late holocene on the Georgia coast, USA" published.
